Friday, April 3, 2015

Gather intelligent people, provide them with the time, the choice of the task, how they do it and even with whom they will do it. Great results will happen; April 3, 2015 was one of those days.
Thank you to all who participated.

Staff News

Congratulations to Coach Joe Gilmartin who won the Gridiron Clubs' prestigious Rhode Island Coach of the Year Award! NK hasn't won this award since Keith Kenyon won it back in 1993.  The winner of this award receives a sports jacket and tie from Gridiron Club!

Toni Silveira and Mike Iadevaia thank all of the faculty and staff for their flexibility during the Middle School Music Festival. Over 700 students performed from 14 schools.

Students as Learners
The German American Partnership Program is the single most successful bi-lateral, short-term, school exchange program between the United States and any other country.
Sponsors include German Foreign Office and the US Department of State. One of the aims of GAPP is the establishment of long-lasting partnerships between schools. This morning we welcomed our German partners in the Media Center. From the pictures it seems as if the North Kingstown Program is well on its way to making those relationships stick. Thank you to Frau Baker for your work on organizing this special program for our students.

Dr. Auger, and School Committee Members Gregory Blasbalg, and Sheila McGauvran (not pictured) joined the German students for their morning welcome ceremonies.
Dr. Auger accepted an invitation and will be joining us on Monday, April 6th, for part of our faculty meeting.
Taking a selfie with Julia Kreutzer celebrating the arrival of the students and showing off my new shirt—a gift from the German students and faculty. Thank you!

Moritz Breuning (Burgau-Gymnasium in Duren), Ruthann Baker and Bob Shaffer—having a good laugh over the German Book. Ask Bob about the story, it's funny.

Adults as Learners
I was not able to get to all of the sessions but where I did go, great things were happening. Take a look:

This is only 6 minutes long…Teaching Grit.

 Articles Worth Reading

I overheard Rich Polseno say he could picture himself using the information he was learning next week. Very inspirational. For those who came up to tell me about their sessions, I appreciate it.

Food for Thought
From Rich Garland, our IBM link:
In celebration of ThiNK T@NK being so successful...good ol' Tom Watson (founder of the IBM), has decided to carry on NK's direction and help strengthen our culture, students and all, “Knowledge is the result of thought, and thought is the keynote of success', he says, "Thought, has been the father of every advance since time began. ''I didn't THINK' has cost the world millions of dollars."
