Week Ending June 3, 2016

Congratulations Ms. Mason

Student Services Office
Congratulations to Ms. Mason for being nominated for this week's Skipper Pride for Excellence Award by last week's winner, Paula Schiavone. From Paula:

Ms. Serena Mason is a respected and dedicated teacher and colleague whose reputation precedes her. She is a History teacher and also teaches a History class she created herself; History through Film. Her students know she is a dedicated teacher by how passionate she is in class.  One student said “it is hard not to pay attention to her because she is so interesting”.  She brings the classroom to life with her memorabilia to all the places she has visited and things she has collected over the years as well as her interesting and funny stories where she makes connection to pop culture or things happening today.  These artifacts and stories help students understand history better and feel like they are part of it.  She connects with her students on a personal level by writing numerous recommendation letters, giving them nicknames and sharing their love of the minions and Twlight.  In her spare time, to continue her passion of experiencing history in the real world, she is the CEO of Mason Tours.  She has taken almost 1,000 students to over 17 countries on 5 continents.  This is truly amazing!  I know firsthand how hard she works to ensure that these trips run smoothly and that the students get to “touch” history and have long lasting memories.  She is an amazing person who when I first came to NKHS she welcomed me and immediately made me feel part of the NK family.  Unfortunately, there is so much more to say and I know that what I have said does not do her justice but after becoming friends with her she inspires you to be your best.  For that and so much more Ms. Mason is so deserving of the Skipper Award for Excellence.  Congratulations!

  3. So well deserved! I have worked with many educators in my 13 year teaching career, but Ms. Mason stands out as one of the best. She is a scholar, an intellect, and global adventurer, all of which she brings into the classroom to energize her students and make those vital connections.
